Best Recipes for Green Olives

Here at D’Olivo we love olives. From the beautiful, delicious, and high-quality extra virgin olive oils they produce to the tasty recipes you can make with both the olives and the olive oils there’s so much to explore. Check out some of our favorite recipes for green olives below!

Pizza with Green Olives

Everyone loves a good pizza, and no matter what your favorite go-to toppings are, green olives, and the flavor profile they can offer, make an excellent addition. Get adventurous and take a break from ordering pizza from your favorite place and instead try making it a family affair by making your own. We’ve got a great pizza recipe for you to check out.

Greek Salad

Greek salads are a favorite for us, especially during the warm summer months when it’s nice to have lots of healthy, flavorful, and refreshing recipes on hand. For those days when you need a quick snack or just don’t want to fire up the stove or grill, consider throwing one of these together. It also makes a great potluck dish – quick and easy – so keep this one on hand for any occasion.

Greek Chicken Pita

We’re staying with the Greek theme on this next suggestion too. What can we say, they know how to cook with olives! A Greek gyro is one of the tastiest dishes you can find, and this recipe puts a fun spin on that traditional dish. While it calls for chicken you could definitely substitute in another meat of your choosing or make it all-veggies. Give it a try.

Marinated Olives

Green olives, or olives of any kind really, can be delicious on their own. You can purchase some amazing stuffed olives (at D’Olivo we offer a great selection of Delizia stuffed olives) or purchase pitted green olives and marinate your own. If you’re the kind who likes to tinker with homemade goods, give these a try.

Pasta Salad

Another easy, quick side-dish for the warm summer months is pasta salad. Kick yours up a notch or two by adding in green olives. If you’re feeling extra adventurous try your favorite stuffed Delizia olive and substitute it for plain, pitted green olives. Trust us that this one is going to be a crowd pleaser.

Shrimp Orzo Salad

Shrimp, or any fish, can make a great meal and this orzo pasta dish is no exception. We love things that are quick to make and throw together since we know how great it is to have easy meals on hand for extra busy weeknights or for days that you just don’t want to spend too much time cooking.

Sheet Pan Chicken

Another easy to make meal is sheet pan chicken. Simply throw together your sauce, marinate it in the dressing of your choice and place everything onto a pan and bake it in the oven. It comes out with everything ready to go. You can choose to add some additional sides or just eat it as is. If you’re looking for a great sheet pan recipe to try, we’ve got a great one.

Our Favorite Fall Recipes

The fall season is one of our favorites around here. There’s something magical about the cool, crisp mornings followed by warm afternoons that inspires us in the kitchen. We love watching the colors change on the trees knowing that the holiday season is just around the corner.

As we welcome in fall this year, we’re sharing our favorite fall recipes. We hope you’ll enjoy them too.

1. Bruschetta

Everyone loves a good appetizer. Whether you’re cooking for a small group of close friends or planning to entertain at a large gathering, bruschetta is going to be a hit. We love a traditional Italian style bruschetta that features ripe Roma tomatoes, fresh basil, parmesan cheese, garlic, and of course olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Check out our go-to recipe here.

2. Roasted Acorn Squash

Squash takes center stage in the fall from butternut to acorn to spaghetti there are tons of recipes out there featuring these tasty options. One of our personal favorite sides for any meal is roasted acorn squash. All you need is a little of your favorite olive oil to drizzle on top and you can have an easy and delicious meal ready in no time.

This dish is also a great one to experiment with different olive oils to find the one you like best. We recommend any of our ultra-premium olive oils as well as garlic and rosemary.

Find the recipe here – https://dolivotastingbar.com/recipes/roasted-acorn-squash/

3. Corn Bisque with Crispy Fried Shallots

There’s nothing better in the fall months than a good soup or a hearty, warm chowder. There are dozens of options to choose from and any of them will be great in a pinch. One of our personal favorites features another fall classic – corn.

This corn bisque is delicious and the best news is, that it’s best when made in a pressure cooker. That means you can have a piping hot meal in a short amount of time. What’s not to love about that? Grab the full recipe here – https://dolivotastingbar.com/recipes/corn-bisque-with-crispy-fried-shallots-evoo/

4. Bacon Cheddar Quiche

Breakfast is a meal that we can’t forget to mention, and one of the best ways to start a day in the fall is with quiche. Not only will it help ensure you start the day with a full stomach, but your house is going to smell delicious for the whole day. Bonus that leftover quiche (if you’re lucky enough to have some) is an easy dish to re-heat throughout the week while maintaining its flavor.

There are lots of ways to make an excellent quiche, but if you’re looking for a new recipe that will become a favorite then give this one a try – https://dolivotastingbar.com/recipes/bacon-cheddar-spinach-quiche/

5. Cauliflower Stir Fry w/Peanuts

If you’re like us then in the summer we try to avoid cooking indoors to help fight the heat. That means when fall hits we’re ready to fire up the stove top and oven again and that means a good stir-fry is once again in season. One of our favorite parts of a stir fry is that it truly can be a last-minute throw together using whatever vegetables and meat that you happen to have on hand.

While any stir fry is a great option, we can’t help but rave about this vegetarian version featuring cauliflower, peanuts, UP extra virgin olive oil, chili sauce and more.

6. Cranberry Orange Bundt Cake

We’re rounding out our fall list with a delicious dessert that’s the perfect combination of fall flavors. Cranberry (of course) and orange are two flavors that always pair well together, but they really highlight the fall and winter seasons for us.

Baking is the perfect weekend project so be sure to grab these ingredients and whip this up sometime soon. https://dolivotastingbar.com/recipes/cranberry-orange-olive-oil-bundt-cake/

Olive Oil Recipes for Springtime

No matter what time of year it is, if you’re cooking for a family, it can be easy to fall into a rut with recipes. Even if you love to experiment, falling back on the same old meals every week is easy. Especially if your life is otherwise very busy – and let’s face it most people these days are busy.

The seasons are changing once again, and we’re excited to welcome the first hints of spring. With the changing weather it can also be a great time to shake up your kitchen and start trying out new recipes.

Below are some great spring inspired dishes to get those wheels in your brain churning. Give any of these a try or visit our complete recipe page for more options – https://dolivotastingbar.com/recipe/

Lemon & Rosemary Grilled Halibut

Fish can be a great meal any time of the year, but springtime makes us think of lighter dishes, and this tasty halibut hits just the right notes for us. It utilizes our champagne balsamic vinegar which is complimented by the olive oil, rosemary and lemon.

This dish is also going to make you look like a real chef in the kitchen so break it out for a date night or any time you want to really set the bar high for guests. They won’t be disappointed.

Homemade Pizza

Pizza is a staple in our house and making it from scratch is the best way to upgrade the meal and make sure you’re putting only the best ingredients into your body. It doesn’t have to be difficult either. Start with a premade dough (or make your own) or if you’re going super healthy try out a cauliflower pizza crust.

Add pizza sauce of your choosing, add your favorite toppings and voila dinner is ready in no time. It’s also a great activity to let kids help with and get them excited about dinner. One of our favorite toppings for any pizza is our stuffed gordal olives. We’ve got a variety to choose from and they’ll all taste fantastic on a pizza, but try the garlic stuffed olives to start.

There’s something about springtime that makes us excited to dive into our favorite salads. There are always unique and exciting ways to make a salad shine and adding a homemade dressing is one of the easiest.

Heavier dressings can be enjoyable at times, but spring makes us think light so we’d suggest drizzling your salads with any combination of our olive oils and/or balsamic vinegars. Fan favorite choices include raspberry, strawberry, and black currant vinegars.

If you’re looking for a specific recipe to try out then try this green goddess dressing from our friends at Veronica Foods. It stays good in the fridge for up to a week if stored properly.

Spring Trifle

The name says it all, and our list of recipes wouldn’t be complete without a tasty treat to satisfy those with a sweet tooth. Featuring lemon pound cake, lemon curd, chantilly cream, and berries this happy dessert covers all the bases. It’s easy to make and delicious too so be sure to add this to your springtime baking list.

Olive Oil Recipes for Warm Weather

Spring has officially sprung and as the days get longer and the warm, sunny days become more regular, we can’t help but dream of all the beautiful summer days that lie ahead. While we believe that olive oil makes the perfect addition to any dish all year long, there’s something special about cooking with it during the warm months ahead.

To help you get inspired for the summer meals you’ve got ahead we decided to highlight some of our favorite ways to use our oils and vinegars during the warm months of the year.

French Fries

A classic side dish that everyone loves are usually best paired with hamburgers, but we think they can be a great addition to any outdoor meal. Typical deep fried in a vegetable or canola oil, you can also fry these in a high quality olive oil instead. After they’re fried we recommend using some of our truffle salt to create your own truffle fries. Trust us – they’ll be a hit!

This classic Mediterranean dish makes a wonderful appetizer. Pair it with fresh vegetables or slightly toasted pita bread. While most hummus recipes call for regular olive oil, we’d recommend adding a little flair by using one of our flavored varieties. If you’re in search of a great hummus recipe give this one featuring our Herbes de Provence olive oil a try.

Ramen Noodle Salad

Summer and salads go hand in hand. While you can take any salad and drizzle it with olive oil and balsamic to create an explosion of flavor in your mouth, we highly recommend mixing up your go-to salads with this ramen noodle version. It’s light enough for warm afternoons and evenings. Find the recipe here.

Radish Salad

We’ll continue the salad theme and encourage you to try a salad that really highlights one of our favorite vegetables – the radish. Take 2 cups of radishes (sliced), red onion (sliced), one cucumber and combine in a bowl with ½ cup of extra virgin olive oil, 2 tablespoons of white wine vinegar, ½ teaspoon of salt and ½ teaspoon white sugar and enjoy.

There are dozens of ways you can make the perfect kebab – from vegetable only options to those that feature steak and chicken you can’t go wrong. Marinate the meat and vegetables using any pairing of our olive oil and vinegars, toss them on the grill and serve them up.

Spaghetti is always a crowd pleaser and if you’re looking for an option that might not feel as heavy as a traditional sauce, we recommend topping yours with some olive oil. Add in some sliced cherry tomatoes, basil, and walnuts for crunch to make it a gourmet dish.

Yogurt paired with fresh fruit and granola is a delicious way to start out any summer day. If you want a truly healthy option try making your own granola by using some of our favorite olive oils. First up you can try this Golden Amaretto Granola or go the fruitier route with this Mandarin Fused Olive Oil Granola.

Dessert is always a great option and choosing a chocolate fondue allows you to showcase any of your favorite summer fruits. At your next summer gathering try using this blood orange dark chocolate fondue recipe for your family and friends.

No matter what your plans are this spring and summer we hope you’ll be inspired to get in the kitchen and start cooking. At D’Olivo we have over 30 olive oils to choose from and each of them pairs beautifully with our selection of high-quality balsamic vinegars.

Stop in to see us at 10 E Main Street in Walla Walla to experience a complete olive oil tasting. We’re open Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 6 PM, Friday and Saturday from 10 AM to 6:30 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Baking With Olive Oil

We get asked a lot in the store to share recipes and cooking tips to those who are purchasing from our great lineup of ultra premium olive oils and balsamic vinegars. While we’ve got a great list for you to check out online here there are also lots of ways that you can incorporate olive oil into your cooking without a specific recipe.

While many might not know this, you can substitute olive oil for a variety of other baking and cooking fats. We explore those here and even include a nice conversion chart for those of you who are ready to take that leap.

Lots of recipes today in baking call for one of these two ingredients. While these have their place as a cooking and baking fat, if you want to opt for something healthier then olive oil is a great choice.

You might be thinking – what do I do if I have to cream the butter with something else? Many recipes for cookies or light and airy cakes call for this technique. Even with olive oil you can make it work.

Below is a great chart on the substitutions you would use for typical measurements. If you don’t see your conversion here then please do this at a ratio of 3 parts olive oil for 4 parts butter.

1 teaspoon = ¾ teaspoon
1 tablespoon = 2 ¼ teaspoons
2 tablespoons = 1 ½ tablespoons
½ cup = 3 tablespoons
1/3 cup = ¼ cup
½ cup = ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons
2/3 cup = ½ cup
¾ cup = ½ cup + 1 tablespoon
1 cup = ¾ cup

Canola/Vegetable Oil

This type of swap in your recipes would be very easy as the exchange is a simple one-to-one ratio. In addition to being good for your health, the richness of a good quality olive oil is only going to enhance the delicious flavors in a chocolate brownie or cake recipe.

Why Make A Switch

We’ve talked a lot about the health benefits of olive oil and it’s becoming a popular topic that you’ll see in the news on occasion. Changing out one of the fats in a recipe for a healthier option can have an impact on your overall health.

Olive oil has been proven to have a high concentration of antioxidants and can help with inflammation. Check out our article on the 5 Proven Health Benefits of Olive Oil to read more about this topic.

Don’t be afraid to get creative in the kitchen and experiment by incorporating a new and healthy fat into your baking. Our recommendation (as it always is) is that you use a high quality, not overly processed olive oil, much like the ones we carry at D’Olivo. The robustness of the flavors you find in these as well as the health benefits will enhance whatever you’re cooking.

10 Great Olive Oil Recipes for the 4th of July

While the 4th of July is all about celebrating our independence, it’s also about enjoying delicious food with friends and family. So, to help you prepare for this year, we’ve compiled some of our favorite olive oil recipes that will fit perfectly into any 4th of July party.

1. Drizzle it Over Seafood

Even though burgers and hotdogs are typical 4th of July foods, why not switch things up with some fresh seafood? Whether served hot or cold, fresh seafood is one of olive oil’s favorite partners. Once you’ve prepared your seafood dish to your liking, simply drizzle some olive oil on top and enjoy!

While it’s almost impossible to go wrong with a traditional bottle, using flavored olive oils is a great way to take your 4th of July seafood dish to the next level. We suggest trying out lime or rosemary, but the combinations are endless!

2. Use it as a Marinade

That’s right, did you know olive oil can even be used as a marinade? Adding a few teaspoons to your favorite marinade can really help introduce new, exciting flavors as well as bring out more of the meat’s natural flavor. For the best results, before submerging your selected meat into the marinade, rub it down with a generous layer of olive oil.

Of course, you don’t have to just stick to chicken, beef, and steak. Using flavored olive oils to marinate some shrimp before throwing them on the BBQ is a dangerously delicious way to instantly bring out a gourmet taste.

3. Make a Summer Coleslaw

When the sun is beating down and you’re looking for a cool, refreshing dish to indulge in on the 4th of July, look no further than a summer coleslaw. Moving away from the traditional combination of cabbage and mayonnaise, summer coleslaw is best when made with a blend of your favorite shredded vegetables.

Once combined in a bowl, drizzle a few tablespoons of regular or flavored olive oil (hint, go for citrus!) along with a dash of balsamic glaze, lime juice, salt, pepper, and a touch of agave for sweetness and give it a taste!

4. 4th of July Dipping Sauces

Making some guacamole or a creamy tzatziki sauce for dipping as guests mingle at your wildly successful 4th of July party? Well, olive oil can help amp up the flavor profiles here as well! The best part is, you can experiment with any number of flavored olive oils to see which combinations make for the best dipping sauce.

Citrus flavored oils will work really well in dips like guacamole, while herb infused olive oils will lend their flavors particularly well to dips like hummus or tzatziki sauce.

5. Use it as a Grilling Oil

Nothing can ruin your 4th of July faster than when your burgers get stuck to the grill and fall apart on the flip. To avoid this, instead of using butter or PAM spray, give your grilled meats the gift of flavor by greasing the grill with olive oil. As your meats are grilling, the olive oil will begin imparting its flavor and make for a tasty surprise.

Don’t just stick to meat though, you can use olive oil on just about anything you’re grilling! Corn on the cob, seafood, mushrooms, you name it.

6. Summer Kale Chips

If you’re looking to take your 4th of July snack foods on the healthier route, summer kale chips will be right up your alley. Start by washing the kale and removing the ribs as best you can. Then, preheat your oven to 275, gently place the kale on a baking sheet, add a sprinkle of salt, and generously drizzle olive oil over them.

When they’re done, you’ll have yourself some deliciously crunchy, low calorie chips that are sure to make a splash at your 4th of July party.

7. Make a Cucumber Salad

When you think of summertime, few things are as refreshing as a cool, crisp cucumber salad while you float around the pool. The best part about this recipe? It’s insanely simple to make. Simply cut some cucumber into medallions or in halves and toss them together with cherry tomatoes and onions, add salt and pepper, and top it all off with a few tablespoons of olive oil.

Experiment with some flavored olive oils and different ingredients to come up with your own 4th of July cucumber salad. We’re confident your guests will go crazy for it!

8. Squash is for Summer

Keeping with the vegetable theme here, squash is next up on the list for your 4th of July recipe book. Olive oil braised squash is not only incredibly easy to make, but it packs some serious flavor. To start, cut up your squash into bite-sized pieces and heat some olive oil in a pan over medium heat.

Next, add in salt, pepper, crushed red pepper, garlic, and just about anything else you want for flavor. Then, add the squash and let it braise on each side for a few minutes!

9. Italian Style 4th of July

As great as hamburgers and hotdogs are, why not switch things up and surprise your guests with none other than Italy’s finest – garlic bread! This tasty, deliciously crunchy crowd favorite is sure to make a splash at your 4th of July party. For this recipe, all you need to do is get your favorite roll of fresh baked bread, slice it, spread some butter, garlic, and salt.

Once they’ve been baked to crispy perfection, set out a small bowl of your favorite olive oil for dipping and let the feast begin!

10. Corn & Avocado Salad

Because temperatures tend to skyrocket as we get into July, you’ll want to have plenty of cool, refreshing dishes at your party. As such, this tasty recipe hits the mark by combining the zesty flavor of onion with the smooth, semi-sweet flavors of corn and avocado.

From here, throw in some tomatoes, salt and pepper, vinegar, and, yep, you guessed it – olive oil! Mix it all together and you have the perfect corn & avocado salad for 4th of July!
