Olive Oil Skincare – The Natural Way to Nourish
Your Hair and Skin

Look your best and beautify your skin with our diverse line of natural, Australian-made olive oil products

Olive Oil For Skin

At first, putting olive oil directly on your skin may seem like a strange thing to do. After all, if you’ve ever experienced acne or problems with recurrent pimples, most doctors recommend keeping your skin as oil free as possible.

Across the United States and many other countries of the world, olive oil is widely thought of and used as a cooking ingredient. What most people don’t know is that olive oil is just as beneficial for the body externally (skin & hair) as it is internally.

At D’Olivo, we’ve made it our mission to educate customers not just on the many delicious benefits of olive oil, but on the various ways it can help your skin look its best. To shed light on the wonderous nature of olive oil for skin, below, we share with you the many benefits it can offer when used regularly.

1. Antioxidant Protection

Olive oil is packed with three powerful antioxidants: vitamin E, polyphenols, and phytosterols. As the name suggests, antioxidants are substances that have been found to prohibit the process of oxidation. Oxidation is responsible for the creation of free radicals in the body which can damage other cells and even be a factor in cancer development

In recent years, studies have found that vitamin E may help prevent premature aging of the skin (who doesn’t want that?) as well as aid in protection against the sun’s harmful UV rays. Furthermore, olive oil is also rich in squalene, an oily substance that boosts the antioxidants while also helping to keep the face sufficiently moisturized.

2. It Doesn’t Clog Your Pores

One of the many reasons that oil of any kind is often viewed as facial enemy number one is because it can clog pores and lead to pimple formation. While this is true with some oils, when diluted in a skin care product like the ones we carry at D’Olivo, olive oil will not clog your pores since it already has a fairly low comedogenic rating.

All of the skin care products we carry are sourced from the Olive Oil Skin Care Company of Australia and therefore free of many chemicals and ingredients found in other commercial products that are known to clog pores and irritate the skin.

When shopping with us, you can rest easy knowing all of our products are free of sodium laurel sulphate (SLS), palm oil, petrochemicals, parabens, additives, and preservatives of any kind. The 100% naturally organic olive oil found in our products penetrates deeply and provides your skin with a cleansing effect.

3. It’s a Natural Moisturizer

If you suffer from or experience dry skin on a regular basis, olive oil is a powerful moisturizer that can help rejuvenate and give you back your radiant look. It becomes especially helpful in dry climates where moisture is constantly being drawn out of the skin, leaving it dull and itchy.

When applied to the skin, olive oil actually soaks in and helps to repair dry skin at a deeper level rather than just providing a superficial fix. The vitamins and minerals in olive oil naturally help to lock in moisture and return dry skin to a smooth state so you can feel confident.

Many of our customers that regularly used commercialized moisturizers have made the switch to using our olive oil for skin care, finding that they not only work better, but that they help to cure the underlying problem that’s causing their dry skin.

4. Antibacterial & Healing Properties

Though there still needs to be more research done, olive oil has shown promising antibacterial properties that can potentially help fight acne-causing bacteria on the skin. One comprehensive acne study supported these findings to a degree after trying multiple remedies, while another found that olive oil was highly effective against bacteria that causes adult atopic dermatitis.

Olive oil for skin has also been used to help treat a wide range of conditions such as psoriasis and eczema throughout history because of its rich concentration of vitamins and minerals. With an abundance of fat soluble vitamins like A, D, K, and E, olive oil can help nourish your skin and potentially reverse undesirable conditions.

Many times, skin conditions arise because the tissues have been deprived of essential nutrients that they need to function, making it more susceptible. It’s also believed that olive oil helps to remove sebum and dead skin cells, both of which contribute to pimple formation.

5. Hair Rejuvenation

Even though we’ve been talking a lot about the benefits of olive oil for skin when applied directly, it’s also been proven to be beneficial for your hair. Just as your skin can get dried out, so too can your hair, ultimately making it much harder to manage while also dulling its natural shine.

The same moisturizing properties that help your skin also help your hair by locking moisture in and revitalizing the keratin. Not only is this going to restore your hair’s natural radiance, but it’s also going to make it much easier to style in the morning.

You’ll also notice that your hair will feel much softer and for a longer period of time. Many commercial conditioners use silicone and other ingredients to give your hair a brief period of softness, but olive oil can provide a more long term solution when used regularly.

How to Use Olive Oil for Skin

Now that you’ve learned all about the different benefits olive oil offers for your skin and hair, you’re probably pretty eager to use it. Even though olive oil can be directly applied to the skin, you’ll get the best results when it’s used alongside other natural ingredients depending on what you’re trying to accomplish. Below, we’ve covered a few ways you can enjoy the many beneficial properties of olive oil right in your own home.

The Kind of Oil You Use Is Important

As you’ve probably realized, there’s more than just one kind of olive oil when you make a trip to your local supermarket or specialty shop. While it’s easy to get caught up bargain shopping if you don’t know the difference from bottle to bottle, when using olive oil for the skin, if you want to enjoy all of the benefits, it’s important that you only use extra virgin olive oil.

This is the oil that’s obtained from the first press of olives, meaning it contains the highest concentration of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Other olive oils that have been further processed lose their potency and beneficial properties along the way, meaning they won’t be nearly as effective for your skin.

For these reasons, we proudly source all of our skin care products from the Olive Oil Skin Care Company because they not only grow their own all natural olives, but they use the strictest of standards to ensure they produce nothing but the finest products for customers like yourself.

Ideally, if you decide to shop for your own olive oil for skin, you’ll want to make sure you’re buying only the highest quality, natural extra virgin olive oil so that it retains a rich profile of beneficial nutrients and properties.

1. Create a Natural Exfoliant

As it turns out, olive oil is the perfect ingredient to use for creating a natural exfoliant. Simply combine some olive oil with your choice of coarse salt or sugar and you’ll be set to go. You can use this concoction pretty much anywhere on your body, including your lips (though we recommend using sugar if that’s the case). This is perfect for scrubbing away dead skin cells and sebum that’s built up overnight or over the day, restoring your skin to its radiant state.

If you’re looking specifically for a facial cleanser and want the best results possible, be sure to check out our olive oil facial scrub. Our olive oil soothing balm is also a wildly popular product that can help soothe irritated skin immediately.

2. Makeup Remover

As great as makeup is, everyone knows what a pain it can be to remove at the end of the day, especially if you’re using a waterproof formula. Believe it or not, olive oil for skin can actually be used as a pre-cleansing step to help remove makeup at the end of the day.

Because a lot of popular makeup is oil based, olive oil can actually “grab on” and make the process of removing it much easier. After you’ve applied the oil, simply following up with a quick face wash should do the trick.

Check out our olive oil face wash which is loaded with beneficial ingredients that will help revitalize your skin and have you looking your best every day.

3. Pre-Wash Hair Treatment

If you’re tired of having wiry hair that feels more like a brillo pad, consider using olive oil as a pre-wash treatment instead of conditioner. Like we covered above, olive oil is a powerful moisturizer that can help to protect your hair and cuticles while also cleansing the scalp.

For the best results, we recommend slightly warming the oil so it can really soak in and turn dry hair into beautiful, flowing hair. When you want to kill two birds with one stone by ridding yourself of commercialized shower products, our olive oil shampoo and conditioner combines the best of both worlds to give you the best results.

4. Body Wash

Every part of your body is connected in one way or another, which is why, if you’re having a skin problem somewhere on your body, the rest of your skin is likely not in the best of shape either. With commercial body washes, while they may smell good, they often sap moisture from the skin rather than restore it due to all of the additives.

This can leave you with full body dry skin without you even realizing it. Not only that, but they may also be draining your skin of the vitamins and minerals that it needs to stay healthy. For this reason, olive oil is the supplement to help ensure your skin maintains moisture and gets nourished with all of the nutrients it needs.

Simply applying it to yourself after rinsing away surface level build up can work wonders for your skin (consider adding essential oils for extra aroma). If you’re worried that your home based mixture isn’t doing the trick, check out our bar soap and body washes which contain olive oil for skin and use only the finest ingredients to make sure you’re getting everything you need.

5. Hand & Cutical Maintenence

Since we use our hands for just about everything, it’s only natural to want soft skin. Not to mention, being stuck with dry skin on your hands can quickly become very irritating. Just as olive oil can help revitalize skin everywhere else on your body, it can work the same wonders for your hands and nails.

Simply rubbing a small amount of olive oil around your hands once or twice a day will help keep everything moisturized while also serving to strengthen your cuticles. As it turns out, even some of the most famous hand models in the world are using this trick to look their best.

If you want to take things a step further and give your hands the best treatment, consider indulging in our wondrous olive oil hand wash and hand cream products.

Production Method of Olive Oil Skincare Co.

At D’Olivo, we truly believe in delivering nothing but the highest-quality olive oil products to our customers, which is why we exclusively source all of our skin care products from the Olive Oil Skin Care Company of Australia. Not only does their passion and philosophy on olive oil directly mirror ours here at D’Olivo, but the level of authenticity and care they put into each product is unmatched by any other company we’ve found.

We proudly carry a variety of their products to ensure we can continue meeting the diverse needs of our customers. From facial scrubs and soothing balms to shampoo and body wash, you not only get to enjoy the benefits, but see them as well. Below, we’ve outlined the rigorous and detail-oriented production methods that the Olive Oil Skin Care Company use to help shed a little light on the unwavering quality of their products.

The Production Process

Unlike with many other olive oil companies that source their olives from farmers and groves around the world, the Olive Oil Skincare Company of Australia grows and harvests all of their own fruit from a 110,000 tree farm that’s home to four different types of olive trees. In doing this, they’re able to see every step of the production process, including how the trees are cared for so that they can ensure only the highest quality olives are harvested each year.

On average, it takes a full year before the olives are ripe and ready for picking. During this time, the grove is managed and tended to day in and day out by a dedicated team of experienced farmers, making it even more rewarding to see the results of their hard work when it comes time to harvest. Depending on the weather and size of the harvest, it can then take another several months to harvest all of the olives on the property!

To gather all of the olives from the trees, they use a mechanical harvester that carefully shakes the trees while catching the olives in bins. Unlike the combing method which can cause damage to the tree and its branches, this ensures they remain in good health and primed to start growing next seasons olives right away.

Each of the four types of olives that have been selected to grow on the farm were carefully vetted for their oil characteristics and ability to produce top grade extra virgin olive oil. To help give you a better idea of how complex it is to grow and harvest olives, each of the four types have different optimal yields, meaning that there is very little room for error when deciding it’s time to harvest each year.

Once the ripe olives are shaken loose from their trees, they’re then immediately taken back to the on-site processing facility in large bins for washing and crushing. It’s here that the olives are thoroughly cleaned to ensure they’re free of all debris before being transported along one of three processing lines for crushing. The efficiency of their processing facility ensures that the olives are processed in 2-3 hours, allowing them to maintain most of their beneficial properties.

The extra virgin juice obtained from the first cold press comes out looking like “liquid gold” as many of the Olive Oil Skincare Company employees call it. From there, all of the juice is then pumped immediately into selected vats to ensure purity where they will undergo the process of settling, blending, storage, and distribution.

Even though the process may sound straightforward, every step of production is dictated by strict guidelines and standards set forth by the Australian government in order to label their olive oil as extra virgin. These standards encompass everything from the way the olives are grown and harvested to the way the oil is bottled and stored.

Regardless of what your skincare needs are, we’re confident that the products we carry will help you achieve radiant, healthy skin. Browse our selection online or come in for a visit and have one of our friendly staff members help you meet your skincare goals.
